so, very strange. i got back into my ancestry account.

had a hell of a time, cuz somehow it got that 2 factor crap turned on. i know i didnt do that. but anyway.

it is showing me dna cousins. but i have zero recollection of uploading me dna there.
i never downloaded it from 23/me till a few months ago, and i havent been on the site since then.

i did go to the trouble of getting in so i could do that, then didnt see how to do it.
but they have it.
how the fuck did that happen?

you can only download it 'from' them. 23andMe is proprietary the same way.

Is there any chance you took the Ancestry test too and forgot about it or does a friend of family member have access to your Ancestry account? I'm trying to think of any other way they could have your data an coming up zip ATM.

It's very rare but not impossible that there was a mix up.

Either way I'd call them tomorrow and tell them about it for sure.

From any other sources than direct testing so if you didn't test there and a very close family didn't test using your account instead of their own I haven't a clue except to suggest you call Ancestry tomorrow. There's probably a logical explanation being overlooked.

If so, I get it. Lots of DNA testers have no interest in building as tree/doing the research, so if you had a tree, that would be close enough, assuming you share the same parents.

If not, then I'm trying to figure this out.

You should call their customer service and ask. I get the feeling they think you sent in a DNA sample at some point.

i'm sure they know that. i can see why they would do it, sorta.

i was surprised they dont let you upload, cuz it adds to their data base.
but mebbe they just want whatever rights they get if it's their test.
whatever they may be. i dont rly want to know. and honestly, i dont care. the broader the database companies like 23/me have, the more the science advances.
happy to contribute to science.

must be uploaded by someone who has access to the person's raw data and downloaded it.
