I think my least favorite garden chore, other than weeding, is shrub trimming

These are tall, hedge style shrubs. Really TOO tall for me to trim so I have to use a little footstool to trim the tops. I DO make sure the stool is stable before I climb on.

Even trimming the sides. Yikes! I think I'm just not strong enough because I tire out with all of the having to life the (for me) HEAVY electric trimmer up and over my head. Well at least as high as my head.

I've finished 5 and there are 3 to go, although one will wait. It's smaller and I can probably take care of it with the hedge clippers.

As soon as someone with a chain saw is available, I'm thinking about just getting rid of them. To me they are a security hazard because someone can easily hide behind them. (Although none are by a house window.) I'll just mulch over that entire area.

Ok, I've gotten that morning complaint out of my system. Time to hydrate, again, and finish the job. Then I will reward myself with some sort of icy cold beverage.

1. I hate it, too

My hedges need to be trimmed again. My late husband used to trim them and was much better at it.

2. Yea, those a pricey.

I have an electric hedge trimmer but I'm in need of a couple more inches in height and a LOT more upper body strength to really use them effectively.

Hopefully I can either get them 'cut down to size' or removed, completely. I've taken some other shrubs out and not missed them for an instant.

3. You won't miss them

I had some overgrown arborvitae taken out this spring. The last homeowner planted a variety that wanted to be 30 feet tall about three feet from the foundation. I finally got tired of trying to manage them and hired someone to take them out. Haven’t missed them in the least.

4. I took out 5 boxwoods and replaced them

with azaleas. I don’t miss the boxwood at all.

5. We had two

Willows and they were getting old and lost a lot of limbs during a snowstorm a couple of years ago. They just looked really bad after that. We finally got rid of them last year and have not missed them. We have a lot of trees in our backyard that we have planted over the years. The oldest is a Maple that we planted in 1991.
