It is 96 F here right now and I was moving some stones and 1 hour was enough.

Filling in hole where there used to be a small pond. And my goal is to make a box turtle environment
with natives ….. forest floor stuff.

I think an hour of moving things around outside today is more than enough Botany.

Shifted East of me. Right now it is 91 - we’re having a cold spell!

The fires of Hades will be in Texas soon enough.

How Texans keep cool

1) wet a clean washcloth and freeze it in a bag. Slap that sucker on the back of your neck.

2) a hat! Wear a hat and long sleeves preferably cotton.

3) make a big ole pitcher of iced tea, turn on a fan, place a bowl of ice cubes in front of the fan - sit there in your undies enjoying the cool air.

4) if all else fails - come to Texas and float the Comal, Guadalupe, San Marcos or Frio rivers.

5) frozen three musketeers minis are great, too. Frozen grapes also work.

6) if all else fails head to the Texas coast for tasty adult beverages, great seafood, and sea breezes.

I hope it cools off for y’all soon!

I especially like the frozen three musketeers idea. My aunt always had frozen grapes to snack on.

My all time very most fav summer treat. 💕

Doesn’t seem to work as well with snickers or milky ways - too much caramel?

...a wet dew rag or a soaking wet wide headband goes a long way. Also, I grew up on that Texas coast and haven't made my annual pilgrimage. The waters are too warm in summer, but long about September or October I'm due for some seafood and surf! Thanks for these happy thoughts!

My favorite time of the year to visit Galveston or Port A is the Fall. No crowds, cooler water, not so hot, and long walks on the beach. Heaven!

It's 99/111 there atm. I added DC to my local weather.com to see if it was going to rain on the Trump parade.

In the Sierra Foothills, we just had a few days cooling after temps in the 90's.
And it's the season for clearing dry grass 100 feet from the home, per Cal Fire regulations.

You can only work early in the morning. Nights are cool but all summer and most of spring and fall are bone-dry.

A neighbor came to help with some tree trimming, and I was amazed that he carried a backpack.

What the heck? I checked it out and it had something cold inside.

Usually, thermal mass equates to weighty mass, but I didn't ask what it was.

Trader Joe's used to sell bottles of water, frozen. It was neat.
They don't leak, and when they thaw, you can drink the water.
But it was a waste of valuable freezer space for them to sell 29 cent items, so they stopped.

So do it at home.

I remember swimming in my Grandfather’s stock tank (pond) in the summer. Loved it. Great memories - thanks!

Brutal. 108, 105, 103 in the middle of the day. What's weird is the low humidity, which has been well under 50% - that isn't normal.
