We are of the earth...

We are of the earth.

Gardening, isn’t what it appears to be.

Yes, it’s working with the soil.
Yes, it’s the beginning of things.

Yet, it is full of surprises.

It’s more than producing flowers and vegetables,
working among weeds and rocks, trees and grass.

Still, these all come from the same source.
The earth gives birth to all these things.

We are of the earth,
Gardening is the dawn of that realization.

The birds are dependent now upon my blueberries. This year they have almost wiped them out and it's only June. They are not even bothering waiting till they are ripe. I need more bushes and maybe another food source. The apples? The squirrels eat most of them along with many of the nectarines, for the most part. It isn't summer till I see a squirrel on my fence with an apple 8 times bigger than his head in his mouth. I just wish they ate the whole thing. I'm one of the few yards with a firefly population. The bees just love hosta flowers!
