Since I don't have an experience with Zone 8, I am not sure if that applies to your particular area. But the general rule is plant in the spring. Zone 8 apparently is an area where they are hardy and survive as perennials, so you may be ok to plant them now. I suppose that since you leave them in the pot outside all year, it really would be safer for them to be in the ground during the winter. Lucky you, to have them survive in a pot for years.
