I am not here to debate GMOs, but to point out the reality that there are no GMO seeds or plants available to home gardeners. You do not have to pay more for that packet of seeds that says "GMO Free," nor for the "GMO Free" starter plant. They are no different than the other seeds and plants.

I find companies that utilize fear of GMOs as a marketing tool that is less than honest to be rather unethical, and so I do not buy seeds from those companies. But that is just me.

1. Gardening is certainly just as vulnerable as anything else to hype, advertising, and

manipulation of emotions. I collect lots of very old seed catalogs - back then, they used the same sort of thing - bashing other companies, descriptions far in excess of reality - everything they could do in advance of doctored photography!

2. Ugh. It's just plain old depressing.

3. You wouldn't believe the various smaller seed companies/websites

that falsify variety histories to create a buzz that lead to sales. I've seen a tomato I named, Cherokee Purple (an old Tennessee variety I named in 1990), described as "an old, rare eastern European variety finally available for the first time due the fall of the Iron Curtain"!

Of course, when you point these things out, you are either met with anger...or just ignored.

Luckily, I also think most humans wouldn't pull such nonsense. Unfortunately, there are so many of us that a small percentage of scumbags can make things rather unpleasant.
