Anyone grow bulb Royal Crown Imperial?

I have had one bulb for probably ten years now. It is a magnificent bloom. However it has only bloomed like 3 times, it comes up too early and then gets knocked out by a late frost most years. It is snowing and 18 degrees out here tonight. I did build a little makeshift greenhouse over it, but I have a feeling it will just brown up and die back with no bloom only to pop up again too early next year.

Peace
