I LOVE garlic. In years past I have planted up to 100 cloves. Harvested beautiful heads the next July. A special note for any novice...garlics have prolific root systems. I have found that digging is better than pulling up a finished head. Cheers and pass the roasted cloves this way.

Bulbs go pointed end up about 1 1/2 to 2 inches down. This year I purchased a new tool that really helped. It is a largish drill bit that goes on my battery powered drill and bores a nice wide hole as deep as I want. Just poke it in the soil drop in the clove and cover.
Soil should be tamped down to cover bulb but not too tightly.
I made it in time for a bit of rain/snow today so I will not be needing to water at all until shoots appear in spring and ground need water.

Holes for beach umbrellas!

So it's a special bulb you buy? Vs. taking a clove off a regular old garlic bulb you buy in store?

Came up with new method. Cut cloves in half and place in warm pan with olive oil. The skins just curl off. You have to watch and have stove on low. But no problem for me. Making dinner in my tiny kitchen is an event I love every day. Glass of wine and MSNBC on TV babying garlic.
