I need cat rescue advice.

On my way home this evening from my office, I saw a little yellow kitten at a neighboring office.

I went back with a cat carrier and a can of kitten food. When I got back, I found the kitten and his momma. Momma has a collar, so she at least has had a home at some point.

I put out the food as bait. They both ate but I couldn't get close enough to touch either. I got within a foot or so of momma but the kitten was much more leery. (I'm not going to take momma home without the kitten. I'm not keen on taking the kitten without the momma.)

I don't think a trap is a good idea because I'm afraid I will catch one but not the other. I'm keeping the carrier in my truck along with more food. I'll see if they are still there tomorrow.

Any tips would be appreciated.

I'm cross-posting an earlier post to the Lounge.

Try to feed them everyday, preferably in the same location. Don't make any sudden moves when they come to check out the food, and just talk softly with them. Depending on how long Mama's been out on her own, she may not take that long to check you out. This is what I've usually done in the past when I was doing rescues, and most of the time it worked really well. Even had to do with a couple of dogs. I really hope you can get them before the 4th and all the noise associated with it. I can imagine it scaring the poor baby half to death! Good luck; may Bast lead you with willing paw prints!

If you can get them both in there, close the door.

Ty for helping them, Tom.

Depending upon where you live, there might be a trap & release program or rescue that can help you capture them.

Call a vet & ask for organizations that can help.
