Related: About this forumLast week the Cat Distribution System bestowed upon me two 14-lb. gray brothers
who have assimilated me and are now my overlords. Their names are Chet and Dave; they're solid dark gray but not completely identical. Chet is a little lighter gray and Dave has a rounder face but I had to get collars so I could identify them from across the room. Chet is extremely friendly while Dave is a bit more introverted, though he greatly enjoys being petted and likes to scent-mark me. They have learned that the kitchen = food and that they are required by some cat rule to accompany me to the bathroom. They have many toys and napping spots and they have filled my home and my life with the great joy of catness. Some photos:

(760 posts)Having to euthanize a not even the 5 year old best cat ever - distribution system or not - I keep hoping another finds him/herself into our lives. There was no amount of money to resolve his health issues and it continues to break my heart - I doubt I will ever comes to terms with it as it still brings me to tears. It was the right thing to do but that doesn't make it any easier.
I am so happy you could take both in. The other dump/feral we took in not long after best cat ever needs a buddy. I put the "feelers" out to my vet/vet tech. We suspect best cat ever owner died/went into a facility (and hence got dumped). Pets that need good homes are never in short supply. Other cat we took in needs a procedure in the near future.
Bless you for taking them in.

(131,543 posts)Years ago I lost a youngish cat - a gray one - due to an incurable neurological problem, and it was really, really hard. You can't replace him but you can give another one a home, and that will happen.

(131,543 posts)That was my guess, too. Used to watch em both, every dinner time.

(2,483 posts)I had to get collars to tell them apart at first, too, but it didn't take very long before I could tell who was who without them. I'm so glad for you! and them.

) They look and sound like wonderful masters--you are most fortunate to have them (as I'm sure they have told you)!

Goodnight, Chet. Goodnight, Dave. And goodnight, Ocelot II.

(37,494 posts)seems to be the one thing cat and dog homes have in common. I keep the dog food in one particular pantry, and before each meal my pointer runs in to sniff around and make sure everything is up to par - then settles down for his meal. Congratulations on your new companions - I'm sure they will keep you on your toes!

(134,716 posts)with us. You are fortunate to be their chosen one! are their full names Huntley and Brinkley (first thing I thought of!! ) ? Looking forward to hearing more of their adventures as you all settle in together. This doting aunt and one of their cousins send greetings and welcome to our DU Pet family.
(I see others also thought Huntley and Brinkley)

(2,243 posts)They're like morning DJs or a 1950s singing group. Thank you for taking both of them. They're gorgeous.
(Oh okay, Huntley and Brinkley)

(2,668 posts)was a lovely delicate Russian Blue. She's since passed on from cancer, after a fairly long life (16 years), and we still miss her every day. She was about 10 lbs. most of her life, and yes, she could disappear into the shadows with remarkable ease.
I love Russian Blues - they are very intelligent and loving cats, even if they do tend to be somewhat aloof.
