My cat is old and her claws don't retract
To help her navigate the carpet in the living room, I got a foam mat about 21"x38" and cut it into 3 pieces about 6 3/4" x 38" and laid them out like a path. The pieces cover about 10 feet, so she can walk from the uncarpeted hall almost to my chair. She figured out the benefit as soon as I laid them down and is using them to walk on and lay on. I hope I can find another mat like that and add a couple more walkways for her.
She could go from the hall into the kitchen, but no, that is too easy
