I'm working on reducing the load on Audrey's system by encouraging the Furballs to try food from other sources. They're still going to get most of their nutrients from her for a while, but it's time to start branching out a little, at least for snacks.
Little Tepin has been on bottled formula 3x daily for a couple days to help her weight and hydration, as she was originally being shut out of the three available nipples. Her weight's now up to 250g and she's not so obviously skinny. She's more successful fighting for Mama milk and is very active and playful. She's already tried a little high calorie pate, in addition to homemade formula and KMR, so I offered her some KMR in a low dish this morning.
No way. No way in hell. Only the bottle would do. I put some on her mouth and she just turned her head away. She cried. She climbed up on me to assume the feeding position and cried some more. She chomped my fingers to see if there was any help there. And cried.
Then Cascabel, the other female, walked over to the dish, sniffed it, and decided this had distinct possibilities. Settled down to lap.
Tepinita got down off my lap and stalked to where Mama Audrey was having her morning breakfast of half dry, half canned. Stuck her head and half her body between Audrey and the canned food and started eating it like she'd been doing it all her life.
I guess that'll show us.
Incidentally, the boys are now Ancho (the darkest) and the Bruiser is now called Relleno. And some tiny critter used the tiny litter pan today.
