A different kind of complaint

I adopted my friend's cat last fall when my friend passed away after a short illness. This kitty is more affectionate than all of the other cats I've ever had. I let her sleep in my lap several times a day, brush her, but she wants to be in my lap all the time. I would like to use my lap top, but I can't have both in my lap at the same time. My other option is to move from my spot on the couch, but it is the most convenient place. I rearranged the living room after I got her, so she could lay beside me, as she did when she lived when my friend. But that's not good enough. It seems like the longer I have her, the clingier she gets. Is there anything I can do to get some time for myself?

She's likely suffering from the loss of her owner, your friend and is clinging to you so you don't go away too.

Put your lap top on a snack table in front of you and buy a mouse to use with it on a clipboard or something next to you. Or use a tablet or phone instead

5. I've had her for 7 months

I'm retired, mostly home. She gets thyroid medicine twice a day, so I'm staying close to home. The kitty wants more lap time the longer she's here. She's old, but her old vet and new vet say she's in good health for her age. I have to get up every hour or so so to stretch. So that means she is disturbed. I've used my phone to make the o.p. and replies.

4. Mine used to snuggle in next to my leg while I work. What's really bad is when they try walking on keyboard.

6. I used to sit in a recliner

And she wanted to lie beside me. Not enough room. I rearranged the furniture, so she could be on the couch beside me. Not good enough :/

7. I'm not surprised she's clingy...

she lost her human. You adopted her and have been kind and loving towards her, but her insecurity is going to be there for a long time. Each cat is different. I've got one dog, and I've last several of my older cats over the last few years. My dog still hunts one, in particular, that he used to play with all the time. I've got enough cats, it's easy enough for him to find a friend among them, but he misses his favorite cat. And I can tell when it starts to really get to him, because he'll look depressed and HE gets clingy. It's one thing to have an 8 pound clinging cat..., but try it with a 105 pound dog! (LOL)

I took in my mom's cats when she moved to memory care, and both of them were clingy once Mom was gone, too. I end up just rearranging my life and positions around whatever the cats are doing and needing at the time.
