Related: About this forumMy cat has developed a taste for lunch meat;
ham, turkey, it doesn't matter. Every time I go to the refrigerator, she thinks I'm going to make a sandwich and she's Johnny on the spot, suddenly appearing out of nowhere. Then if I do have a sandwich and I sit on the couch eating it, she'll either sit next to me crying or else just stare at me, begging like a hungry little dog. She'll be 14 next month and this is something relatively new, the last six or eight months or so.
My other cat eschews people food. For a while, she used to like Jet's (and only Jet's) Italian dressing but she lost interest in that a few years ago. Don't worry, I never gave her any substantial amount of it; I only let her have a few licks of what was left at the bottom of my salad bowl before I took it away.

(703 posts)There is a grassy area there and a woman threw a Frisbee to her dog, who chased it, caught it and kept going instead of bringing it back to her. It was so cute and funny, I just sat there watching it for a few minutes.
Love your Dunc stories, by the way.

Means more special time between you and your baby.
What are their names by the way?

(703 posts)salad dressing aficionado.
Martini also likes mushrooms. When I'm eating a slice of pizza and a mushroom falls on my shirt, she will gobble it up before I even notice it's there.

(703 posts)favorite ice cream by saying Haagen-Dasz Pistachio? I tried it and it's delicious! If that was you, thanks for the recommendation.

(13,117 posts)She would throw down for mint ice cream after I picked all the chocolate chips out. She adored mint ice cream by time she was with me 6 months I bought an ice cream maker and made mint ice cream for her. The day it was done and I was turning it out into a storage container she jumped up beside me realized what I was scooping and her eyes got as big as saucers!!

(28,497 posts)And, almost without exception, every cat in my life has liked at least one people food. The most unusual example I can remember is from early childhood, when our family cat ate canned peas from his bowl. He took a front claw, pierced individual peas, and brought speared morsels up to his mouth.

(28,497 posts)but its one of my most vivid childhood memories. Even then, I recognized peas werent on most kittehs menu.

(124,807 posts)He always got a little bowl of peas and liquid, and would fish the peas out like that. He preferred LeSeur baby peas, but would condescend to eat other varieties.
All of my kitties have always eaten people food, and each of them had their own preferences, although all of them liked crab, shrimp, and lobster.

(28,497 posts)On seafood, its the dangdest thing with the last four cats Ive had, which includes the three I have now. None of them are enticed in the slightest by real food from the ocean - not synthesized dreck from mass-produced cat food. Theyll eat the dreck. I keep trying to give them good things, however. I think to myself, maybe at least one of them will appreciate this nice morsel of whitefish. Nope.

(124,807 posts)supply said preference, happily.

(28,497 posts)I work hard so my cats can have a better life. Its not just a trite saying for me. My cats know that I look upon the task of cleaning their litter boxes as a demonstration of my love for them, as an example. Upon my return home from somewhere, even if its just a quick trip, I always acknowledge a greeting from anyone whos glad Im back. The little things mean a lot to them.
niyad
(124,807 posts)not like me out of his sight. Do you explain to yours where you are going, and how long you expect to be gone? I always assumed all my babies could tell time, like they had little internal chronometers.

(703 posts)That's so cute, the way he would eat them. Yes, every cat is unique! They all have their own likes, dislikes, personalities, idiosyncrasies and quirks.

spinach, and Brussels sprouts leaves. He also likes cauliflower, but it has to be cooked.
The big tabby guy knows the crinkly sound of the arugula bag and will come running when he hears it. Ive seen him turn away from a dish of cat food if there is arugula to be had.

(839 posts)His preferred treat is dry Grape-nuts. Cheese and butter are close seconds.
I think he's ovo-lacto vegetarian. Or else he's just weird. He won't kill mice, either.
I_UndergroundPanther
(13,117 posts)But once in awhile he will eat pea sized chunks of dried teriyaki flavored beef jerky .However he just HAS to sniff everything edible.Wont eat any of it though.

Fancy Feast was the only canned food I ever gave my cats. She would eat any flavor, but the worse it smelled (like the fishy ones, salmon, tuna, whitefish, etc.), the more she liked it. She also liked the ones with gravy. But her absolute favorite was chicken hearts and liver. I know it was her favorite because the only time she licked the bowl completely clean was when I gave her chicken hearts and liver.
Holly has the audacity to be finicky. She doesn't like beef or fish or chicken hearts and liver or the ones with gravy. She'll sniff at them and walk away. The only kind she likes are the ones with cheese.
Martini will eat any flavor. She's not as fussy as Holly.
I haven't given them any wet food the past few years because they're on a veterinary diet. They're on a veterinary diet because my vet still has a couple of kids I haven't put through college yet.

(6,531 posts)Loves lunch meat too. Ham mostly.
My cat hates human food and I don't know what to do it the selves go empty of cat food like it almost did during the pandemic. He won't even eat canned tuna.

If only Martini could talk........

(7,227 posts)Not quite a year old, likes the little kitten size kibbles about the size of bb's. Can't just eat them out of the bowl though.
Swats several of them out of the bowl, chases them across the kitchen floor, then eats them.
I have no idea how that little bb size brain works.

(549 posts)Vet said it was fine so my favorite food was also her favorite.
She lived to be 20 and 1/4 years which I take to mean that all that talk about the health benefits of broccoli are accurate
She also liked to share a bit of scone but we didn't have those often.

But the Cats I've been around like Ham & Bologna too.
One Cat of my acquaintance had a fondness for Olive loaf.
Never got that. There's no figuring what a Cat might eat.

Apparently cats need functioning kidneys just as much as people do.
Cooked chicken breast is the only human food our cat gets.
