Related: About this forumWould RFK Jr approve? Wife took our 12 wk old kitten to the vet for final Rabies Vaccine. She declined to use my stupid
joke at the Vet to ask aloud if the rabies shot was really needed since RFK Jr was against vaccines.
I wouldn't have wanted to look like a fool either. But think about it, there very well may be MAGAT pet owners who are re-considering their pets' vaccines!
At least we had a good laugh at home about it.
Yeah, I know.. cynical much?

(110,419 posts)--the ultimate tragedy should your dog or cat come in contact with a rabid animal--at that point they will be euthanized as it is too late to vaccinate. The human risks are such that they cannot risk a pet becoming infected-- given the sometimes very inexact and prolonged incubation periods.
So, want to prevent your dog/cat from being boarded--even for emergency purposes? Don't vaccinate. Want to prevent them from being legally able to go to a dog park (receive a license), don't vaccinate. Want to risk the ultimate heartbreak should a (potentially rabid) bat enter your home and engage with your unvaccinated pet--which CAN legally require YOUR pet to be euthanized? Don't vaccinate.
Want to really piss off your veterinarian or physician about this shit? Make a joke about it as though you were seriously contemplating and planning to argue the point. They will really LOVE that.

(433 posts)Please, don't watch any videos of the late George Carlin. You might take his sarcasm seriously.

(35,516 posts)You must register cats and dogs and we provide rabies clinics twice a year. We are somewhat rural. . .
Your pet will be put to sleep if they come in contact with a rabid racoon or fox (most likely we've seen past few years).

(110,419 posts)It is a time waster and a demoralizing issue among staff who simply do not have the time to try to "re-educate" --especially when they receive an endless stream of vitriol for even trying.
I get that you don't know this, but try to be sensitive to the issues. RFK Jr. is putting people's lives at jeopardy and highly dedicated professionals' attempts to prevent that at perpetual ridicule. Ditto for those trying to do similarly for our nation's pets and other animals.

(546 posts)When I talked about what we'd have to do if we were going to emigrate to Spain, he explained everything and said he liked Spain and he understood immediately why we were considering it.

(110,419 posts)thatr the constant litany of vitriol re: vaccines they and their staff are hearing now (in both physicians and veterinary offices and ERS) is FUNNY. Acknowledging why someone would want to flee with their pet to Spain, is hardly the same as making a joke about veterinarians and physicians (and many many decades of SCIENCE) being totally wrong with respect to protecting their pet and themselves from infectious disease.
There are those in this world who are insensitive at their core or think EVERYTHING is funny no matter the context. Kindly don't be one of them.

(546 posts)He's been our vet for over 30 years and has a somewhat wry sense of humor.
After a lengthy treatment and recovery when my cat had pulled a pan from the stove and gotten burned, he ended the final visit by saying, "And keep him out of the soup."
But point taken. Definitely don't want to add to anyone's suffering.
