Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumAnybody else have neighbors who like to play with guns?
Just wondering because I live in an area where people are allowed to shoot on their property. I periodically hear the gunfire, often for holidays and sometimes randomly during the day, like right now or late in the evening. I often wonder if they are killing off a local deer or other wildlife or maybe practicing for their militia or trying to intimidate their neighbors. It could be totally harmless other than the possibility of accidentally missing your target...
For all I know they are prepping to defend themselves from the blue or possibly red enemy. I honestly don't know most of my neighbors. I do find it disturbing when I hear the shooting though, and I do live in a heavily red area.
So I just wonder if anyone else has this going on in their neighborhoods? Where I grew up no one I knew owned a gun.

(679 posts)It has increased here in a red county in PA ever since 2020, when the local MAGATS.labored under the delusion that the election was stolen. It is intimidating and annoying- I dislike loud noises anyway. Used to be just the one neighbor on a Sunday afternoon - now I hear it all over the area at different times of the day and different days.

within about 100 feet on all four sides. I go to a state gun range sometimes.

(724 posts)Some rounds are very loud. Apparently, he likes to build and test weapons.
Other neighbors just have rump flags. We live in the woods.

(4,083 posts)Distance wise, range is closer, but costs more, my property is about 45 minutes away, but I can shoot all day or night there. Closest house is almost 800 yards away perpendicular to my range, and they shoot too.

(8,851 posts)I enjoy shooting... I have quite a few antique guns which I enjoy shooting. Some of them are expensive to shoot, so I don't shoot often!
I also have modern guns which are just fun to shoot (for me). Some of them are "tactical," But I don't ever expect they will ever shoot anything more aggressive than a steel target.
I admit, however, that lately, I've taken the practicing a bit more seriously. Not that I expect a civil war or anything THAT dramatic, but I live on the outskirts of town and I do not put it past some drunk yahoos deciding to try a bit of initimidation (my town is a blue speck in a sea of red). But this is mostly for peace of mind.... I don't really expect that to happen, and if it did, it would take 20 minuts for me to get a gun ready!
