The military tribunal hearings against Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other alleged 9/11 conspirators have been stalled as the judge is suffering from a detached retina but has not been flown out for urgent medical care because of an apparent dispute with his medical insurance company.
According to his wife, Keith Parrella, a US marine colonel, is in danger of losing sight in the affected eye because of the delay. Jennifer Parrella complained on Twitter about the US militarys medical insurer, Tricare.
Tricare its been nine hours and 9/11 war court judge Col Parrella needs emergency surgery but is still waiting for Tricare to approve a plane to air evac him to the US for surgery. Every minute matters. How is this OK? she said in a tweet.
Tricare, which provides healthcare for active military personnel and veterans, did not immediately respond to a request for a comment.
