SEOUL, South Korea — A combat medic died in his barracks over the weekend at Camp Humphreys, the military said Wednesday, adding the cause of death was under investigation.

Spc. Clay Welch, 20, of Dearborn Heights, Mich., was found unresponsive on Sunday and pronounced dead at the scene, the 2nd Infantry Division said. His death was not related to the coronavirus outbreak in South Korea, it added.

SEOUL, South Korea — A combat engineer with the 2nd Infantry Division sustainment brigade was found dead in her barracks at Camp Humphreys, the military said Tuesday. An official said coronavirus had been ruled out as the cause.

Pvt. 1st Class Marissa Jo Gloria, 25, of Moorhead, Minn., was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel after she was found unresponsive on Saturday, according to the 2nd Infantry Division.

It said the death was under investigation. A 2nd ID spokesman, however, took the unusual step of ruling out any links to the coronavirus before the investigation was complete because of high concern over the global pandemic.

...on or about the 25th. The first death was on the 21st. The general, USFK Commander, said it was in order not to let the commands guard down and to protect the troops.

A South Korean news item discussing this matter said that the denial of any relationship to covid was based on no signs of symptoms beforehand by the two soldiers and no underlying medical conditions. They reported that there were 10 cases related to USFK at the time, but only one soldier. The rest are dependents. These are isolated off base. There was one South Korean worker on Camp Humphreys who was positive who was also isolated off base.
