Related: About this forumI'm very well, but wanting to get my details sorted. Where do you put will, cremation plan, etc?
Where will emergency responders look for something like that- on the fridge?
(not kidding)
Thanks all.
I know to tell my family where the files are but who knows if they will remember or even still be here themselves- younger generation may move away from the islands, older may move away from the planet.
A google doc? Outside front door on a clipboard? Seems a few decades early for that.
Thanks, cheeries.

(18,932 posts)Are you giving a second key to the safe deposit box to someone? Im thinking that through.

(15,091 posts)I would file it with the court. And keep a copy for yourself.

(18,932 posts)My trust is filed with the court. Good idea.

(135,988 posts)Friend has helped me put them together but not well, and I still haven't actually placed them anywhere. Guess I'll tell son in law, executor-to-be, where to find stuff, like in a folder (or as now, on sofa!)

(5,196 posts)(He had seen his parents' home demolished by a tornado and had a fire in his own home that destroyed much.)
I purchased the safe and have some documents in it, but frankly, it is likely too heavy for this now elderly woman to carry in an emergency. Guess I'll depend on the fire-proof part of it, though I keep it unlocked in my office/spare room.

(4,146 posts)Our attorney sent us an electronic file that I forwarded to the kids. But you make a good point--thanks for bringing this up.

(22,915 posts)we were told to put my husband's DNR on the refrigerator when he was sick... seems, if not the documants, then information about such could be put on fridge ???
I have told kids where everything is

(16,331 posts)I stayed with her until they got there and the first thing they asked me when they came in was "do you know what meds she's on?" She was incoherent at that point. They walked into the kitchen and fortunately she had hung a copy of all the meds she takes (and she takes a lot whether she needs them or not but that's another story) on the fridge. They said that was extremely helpful.

(54,273 posts)Miz t. and I do have "if incapacitated" medical powers of attorney.
I don't have a health directive like 'DNR' if...
New discoveries in medicine happen daily (hourly?).
I don't want to direct someone to 'unplug' me at some future date. I'll leave it to my heirs and descendants to decide.
I have donated my corpse to science. My wife and daughter have the number to call. Put my remains on ice and they'll come and collect me.
Any 'leftovers' will be cremated and returned to my heirs.
They can hold a memorial/celebration of life/party/bash any time they desire.
Absolutely NO Cost to my family.
Think about it.

(18,932 posts)You do you. I used to feel that way too. 🤙🏼🤙🏼to each his own.
My dear friend said she didnt want an expensive cemetery plot or even a funeral, just a party. Put her ashes in your pocket, cut a hole in your pocket and spread them all the way down the beach.

(7,505 posts)One has Power of Atty, both are co-executors of my will. My original Documents are in a safety deposit box at my bank. Both girls have signature rights to that box, one has a key, the other knows where I keep my key. They also have signatory rights to my checking account and my meager savings account.
I have a DNR and notified my doctor of this.
I am over 80 and am finding life very difficult now and am done with all the problems of coping. As a widow of 15 years, I live on only S.S. My late husband and I managed a simple life, saved, college educated both girls without student loans.
I'm at a stage with nothing but one negative thing after another.
The girls know I don't want a funeral. Cremate me and bury me with my late husband and then go out to dinner and remember the good times.
I feel sorry for them in one respect, how to get rid of all the stuff in the house. Not fun in any circumstance. I've tried to downsize by advertising on local FB pages. No luck. No-one is buying the stuff we had for years.
I'm sick of all of it. Love my family. All I have is a very sick sister in Florida, my 2 girls and 2 grandchildren. Everything goes to them when they get thru all the estate stuff.
