Are any of you familiar with The Mortal Instruments?

My daughter loves books with magic and fantasy-tinged horror, so these seem like they'd be right up her alley, but I want to make sure they aren't Christian-themed. I'm not enthusiastic about the way evangelicals use YA literature to sneak Christian propaganda into stories of that sort and I'd like to assure myself that's not what these are before I buy the series.

1. Try Instrumentalities of the Night

Not familiar with Mortal Instruments, but Glen Cook can always be relied on to provide a good read. Of course, depending on how young your daughter is, he may be a touch too realistic for her. No sex, but a LOT of cynicism.

Have you tried her on the Starfishers? A lesser-known Cook, it's sci-fi, not fantasy, but with a protagonist who reads Ecclesiastes daily, what's not to love?
