Not intact. The protagonist is genuinely unlikable. cthulu2016 Jan 2012 #5
Somewhat like Eastwood's Man With No Name, or "Hang 'Em High". (spoiler) friendly_iconoclast Feb 2012 #6

Jaunting, synesthesia, one way telepathy, implants subtle and gross. I just don't see a way to film it convincingly.

It could be done, but it would take a master film-maker. I think Del Toro could probably handle it.

Some things are better as text provoking the images in your brain, and some things are better as images that provoke text in your brain.

I see Bester's work in the former category.

But it might be interesting to see someone try.

disputatiously,

And narcoleptic the second (it literally put me to sleep). It was fascinating peeling the onion . . . once.

They would change it around way too much to make it a bankable movie.

That said, Vin Diesel could use the work. (That would be decent casting, IMO)

Stranded on the wreck of his ship, surrounded by the corpses of his shipmates for months on end, slacker Gully gets driven over the edge when another ship
refuses to stop and rescue him- even when they know damn well there's someone still alive on the derelict.

Yes, he's a sociopath- but the novel makes clear that those he seeks vengance upon are just as bad, if not worse.
