Not a good look for LA

More people killed in auto collisions than murders for 2 years running.

They aren't the only ones as traffic deaths go up.

After three consecutive annual increases, the number of traffic deaths in the city of Los Angeles declined in 2024. The year ended with 302 fatalities, down 12.5% from the previous year.

While the downturn in traffic fatalities is welcomed, it comes with an asterisk: The roads remain far deadlier than in the pre-pandemic era. In the 2010s, there were never more than 261 vehicle-related deaths in a single year in the city, according to data from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Traffic Division.

1. Well ... if they had more murders than vehicular deaths, that would also be a bad look

Esp. in LA, for various reasons. Just sayin

The post-pandemic stat makes me wonder if the accident numbers in general are up similarly? Or are just more accidents ending up fatal? Maybe people are driving vehicles that are less safe in a higher percentage than they were prior to the pandemic? Like people aren't buying as many new cars since then and the aging cars are less safe due to more wear or less safety features?

3. Aggressiveness is contagious. We have aggressive leaders and now drivers are more aggressive.
