He was sensational against the Dolphins, taking over at QB after the 49ers Jimmy Garappolo left the game with a foot injury.
Purdy is a rookie, the last player chosen in the 2022 draft. He played with poise, confidence, and made the passes that secured the 49ers 8th win of the season.
Initial report is that Garappolos injury is severe. This came from a beat reporter on local Bay Area TV immediately after the game.

(19,838 posts)I turned the radio off to go grab a sunset (we get sunsets here) and looked at the score on the phone.
My goodness, what a fantastic performance, and what a terrible injury to Jimmy.
Last player in the draft is called "Mister Irrelevant" and Purdy is anything but irrelevant.
Sorry for Jimmy. He was playing at his best. Fixed his previous tendency to miss wide open receivers in his progressions.
And a great guy. Good luck to Brock.

(32,494 posts)SF went all in this year. And now theyre down to the third string QB.
With one or two exceptions, the rest of schedule should be easier. But its looking like the playoffs will be going through Minnesota or Philadelphia.

(5,960 posts)Purdy played exceptionally well coming in for Jimmy.
But he's still a rookie, and I'm afraid that after opposing defenses get a few game films on him, they'll be able to shut him down quite easily.
Please let me be wrong.

(32,494 posts)Stuff the box, taking away the running and short passing game, and make him beat you with medium to long passes under constant blitzing.
Get him rattled.
Any ideas out there beside this one?

(5,960 posts)You can bet they'll be taking away everything he did well today.
We've seen this scenario play out over and over.
A rookie no one's ever played against comes in and plays well. Then, after a game or two, they've got him riled up and rendered ineffective.

(22 posts)Poor Jimmy. He was playing so well. I havent watched the game yet (delayed on YouTube TV because I live in Vegas), but saw the injury on a lowlight. I just bought his jersey today to wear to the game here in Vegas on New Years Day. Bummed doesnt begin to cover it.
