(28,590 posts)There's a good game going on and all of a sudden the officiating takes a turn. First the Chiefs get an extra play (the exact same thing happened in the Lions Seahawks game earlier this season, which cost the Lions the game and the playoffs), then that bogus PI call, then Mahomes, who's a runner at this point, flops onto the sidelines like he's a Duke basketball player.
I don't get it.

(15,042 posts)... the last punt return by the Chiefs too, which I presumed was about the uncalled block in the back by the Chiefs that I'd just witnessed.
Nonetheless, the Bengals OL looked pathetic. They had three back-ups playing, two of whom demonstrated their inadequacy as blockers last season. I suspect that they only looked good against the Bills because of the snow, with the Buffalo defenders not getting decent footing while reacting to the snaps.

(28,590 posts)Even if the Bengals were disappointing, the game was in a dead heat.
Games should be close, and in those kinds of games, it's more important that the officiating is perfect (at least, the NFL tells us they want parity and close games). I forgot about the block in the back, by the way.
Worse, certain teams -and I don't think the refs do this intentionally - seem to get favored, especially down the stretch. The Seahawks, Packers, and Chiefs come to mind. I know there's some implicit bias and psychology involved but some teams pick up a lot more calls in their favor than others.
