Fans of the 49ers can breathe an enormous sigh of relief. Brock Purdy had his elbow surgery Friday morning, and it was the less-complicated kind, meaning he could be back for the start of the 2023 season.
The full recovery time for the "internal brace" surgery has long been pegged at around six months. Week 1 is almost exactly six months away.

Niners can sign a journeyman now instead of a mid-level tier QB.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo plans to sign with the Las Vegas Raiders, sources told ESPN's Dianna Russini and Adam Schefter.
So, SF spent Jimmy's salary savings today?
More as things firm up.
UPDATE: Sam Darnold will bolster the QB room. 1 year contract.
Hopefully advise Lance and Purdy.

(31,785 posts)Hargrave's signing is huge.
Need a new right tackle for the O-line next. McGlinchey signed with Denver. Five-years, $87.5 million, $50 million guaranteed. Good run blocker, average pass protect. Broncos paid too much (IMO).

(13,743 posts)I remember when Jim Plunkett was playing for the Patriots.
When they pulled him, the fans cheered. Not that they disliked his performance.
They wanted him unbroken.

(31,785 posts)Aside from making blindside Trent Williams the highest-paid tackle in the league, the rest of the line doesn't seem all that intimidating. Not on paper, at least. But they get the job done behind Shanahan's creative offense.

(5,122 posts)They are a win-now team, and bringing Rodgers in would greatly bolster the 49ers Super Bowl chances. Also, that would give Purdy's arm time to fully heal and strengthen, and he would benefit in the mental part of the game from backing Rodgers for a season (or two).
Frankly, I don't see Rodgers working out in New York.
