Kickoff-time temp will be minus-2 degrees F., with wind chill at minus-35. It stands to be the coldest game the Chiefs have ever played. Ticket prices for this game are the cheapest of any playoff game this weekend (can anybody imagine why?)
Forecast for KC: Tonight's low (minus-7) will be tomorrow's high. No temp above 20 degrees forecast for the next ten days.

(35,541 posts)I guess the players will have some kind of heaters when theyre on the bench. But the fans certainly wont. Its been warm in Miami this week I think

(24,883 posts)...to say nothing of hypothermia among players, staff, AND spectators! The team is allowing some relaxation of what people can bring in to keep warm (but no blankets/sleeping bags with zippers! like somebody's going to beat someone else with a friggin' zipper?) Battery-powered heating clothes will be allowed, but battery size is restricted...... Cardboard will be allowed to stand on, as oposed to the cold concrete.
be warming tents in many places inside and outside stadium. Imagine they will have similar for team members on sidelines. When was the ice bowl I keep hearing about?

(24,883 posts)(Old) NFL championship game (pre-merger), decided who played in the second Super Bowl against the AFL team (Raiders). Temp at game time was minus-13 degrees, with wind chills later calculated at minus-55. Absolutely BRUTAL cold.

(24,883 posts)Whether practice squad or free agents, IDK. I guess they were really beaten up at that position.
I've camped with Scouts in weather this cold, but I can't imagine going out there with a football uniform, and throwing my body around against 250-lb linebackers running at full tilt.

Coldest ever was Dec 3, 1972 against Da Bears.
-2, wind chill -19 to -40.
Mn Coach Harry Peter "Bud" Grant famously didn't allow heaters on the Vikings sidelines but those of us in the stands consumed copious amounts of anti-freeze and pretty much didn't feel a thing.
Well, at least not until we got home and thawed out.
I gave up my tickets when the team moved downtown to the HHH Metrodome. It took all the fun out of the game.
No home-field advantage, no tailgating, you couldn't bring in your own booze, and NO SMOKING IN THE METRODOME!
What's a football game without Peppermint Schnapps and cigars?

(10,875 posts)It was back in the 60s between the Packers and somebody in Milwaukee, of all places. Colder than dammit. A bunch of guys from school went, I had better sense and so did most of the other girls. They came back and within the week, most of them were sick. I don't remember who the Pack played, but they won.

(2,311 posts)Temp was something like ten below, windy, the Bengals linemen walked onto the field with bare arms, the Chargers stepped onto the field with a look that said they wanted to be back in San Diego & played the entire game like their goal was to get the hell off the field and back to one of the heaters on the sidelines. There was frostbite.
I suspect you'll be able to tell as soon as Miami takes the field whether their goal is to play the game to win, or suffer as little time in that kind of brutal weather as possible before getting on a plane headed somewhere warmer
