The multiple Grammy winner was all over social media ahead of Saturdays game, the NFLs main accounts included. Got prominent play during the game, too, with NBCs crew panning to them in a suite, cheering big plays. When the musical superstar was shown on the Jumbotron, fans in the stadium went into a frenzy.
Yet Eminems presence at the Detroit Lions playoff game last weekend didnt prompt the overheated vitriol that Taylor Swifts appearances at Kansas City Chiefs games do.
Imagine that.
That's the thing that's disenchanting people with sports now, Hall of Fame coach Tony Dungy, now a broadcaster, whined last week. There's so much on the outside coming in entertainment value and different things taking away from what really happens on the field.
Its funny and by funny I mean tiresome and lazy how a high-profile female fan wrecks the game, while the prominent visibility of male celebrities or team owners at sporting events is accepted without complaint. Celebrated, even. Jerry Jones gets no shortage of airtime even when people arent trying to decipher his reactions to his teams latest playoff meltdown. Matthew McConaugheys presence at University of Texas games is considered kitschy and fun. Jack Nicholson was as central a figure in the Lakers Showtime era as Magic and Kareem.

Seriously. And yet, when a MAN shows up at a women's soccer or basketball game, unless he's someone's dad, the announcers get all drooly---unless they're present or former players.

And
oh yeah, Swift is the one that turned football into a national grift.

(2,400 posts)maybe the problem isn't with Taylor, fellas. Take a look in the mirror, dude.

(1,321 posts)... testosterone poisoning.
Squealing and whining about an attractive young woman attending a sporting event to cheer for her significant other is REALLY scraping the bottom of the barrel.
Of course, focusing on such witless histrionics is just what the corporate media do to distract those with ADOS (Attention Deficit/ Oh, Shiny!) from paying any attention to the fact that the aforementioned corporate media are not doing their jobs, like keeping us informed about shit that actually matters.
But, as long we allow the oligarchs to control the media, they'll control whatever information we're allowed to see.

Taylor Swift has not interfered with me watching a game. She obviously makes a lot of people happy.

(119,830 posts)attention. From some things that I hear from my sports-loving ftiends, this brutal exercise in physical trauma needs all the help it can get.
Just wondering how many of the people almost frothing at the mouth in outrage about her are magats.

Per Forbes:
And, from ESPN:
I'm thinking they don't need much help.
As to the topic of the OP: I don't get the complaint. Football is entertainment, just like Ms. Swift. There's no conflict or distraction at all. If Dungy is distracted, then he lacks ficus.

(10,875 posts)i know someone who had Dungy as a student in freshman English. Said he was a bright, respectful guy. She is appalled that he grew up to be such a wingnutter.

(3,610 posts).....I know, I know.....Anyhoo, there was a post on Travis Kelce's brother retiring and I quick strolled through all the paean's about this great Philly center. On and on. Of course, I had to post that if not for Taylor, no one outside Philly would have even noticed. Other than a handful of NFL diehards. The reaction was like a snowflake avalanche. Mission accomplished!!!

(14,664 posts)They loved it when Nicholson or any well known men show up at games-no big deal. A few well known actors show up at Chiefs games occasionally and never hear about it, but oh OMG Taylor Swift shows up and she is ruining football. Sick of this attitude of these snowflake fans and sports commentators.
