(88 posts)Way baacckk in the early days of the Packers they had a problem meeting payroll and got a loan from the Bears teams
I've not been able to find data on this loan, recently. But read about it a bunch of years ago.
But I did find a wiki article on the Packers/Bears rivalry

(17,751 posts)The New York Football Giants (now known as New York Giants) joined in 1925, followed by the Portsmouth Spartans in 1930, who relocated to Detroit in 1934 to become the Lions. The heritage of the Indianapolis Colts includes several predecessors, including one of the league's founding teams, the Dayton Triangles. However, both the Colts and the NFL recognize the Colts as a separate franchise which was founded as the Baltimore Colts in 1953. Although the original NFL teams representing Buffalo, Cleveland, Chicago and Detroit no longer exist, replacement franchises have since been established for those cities.

(69,808 posts)Santos is a very accurate kicker, but he's not a thunder leg kicker like many of today's PKs.
So, to hit a nearly 50 yard field goal, he needs a lower, cutting ball flight.
The Packers know this and put their tallest D-lineman in the middle.
The problem is, the Bears burned time off the clock to set up a field goal attempt.
They had time to run 2 plays, they ran none.
Had they gained 5 or 6 years, Santos is more in his comfort range, and would gave been able to kick at his normal trajectory.
Then today, Eberflus foolishly doubled down, saying he didn't want to risk a fumble.
Fans are up in arms, considering that a loser's attitude; showing too little confidence in an offense that played pretty well.
This is 2 of the last 4 games they lost on very unusual plays. Twice in four games doesn't seem like bad luck. It feels more like a lack of leadership & poor situational analysis.

(71 posts)The Bears have fumbled twice this season: Velus Jones Jr. muffed a kick (no surprise there) and Caleb Williams was strip-sacked in one of his first games as a pro football player. This is not a team with problems hanging on to the ball. Also, coaching - and indeed, living - in fear will almost always result in losing.
It's pretty clear to me that Eberflus is gone after the season. He really should be fired now, but the Bears do not fire coaches in mid-season, no matter how much they may deserve it. He's pretty obviously not the guy who's going to make this team find ways to win. Right now they're finding ways to lose.
Look at the Lions. Dan Campbell has made some absolutely crazy in-game decisions, and they've cost his team wins. But he always believes in his team, and he's always willing to take a chance. His players believe in him, and they dig as deep as they have to. Dan Campbell is likely going to win the Super Bowl come February, and the Bears will be looking for a new head coach... again.
