Mississippi State #1 in ESPN power poll

Go Bulldawgs! More cowbell!

It wasn't unanimous (gasp!) but there is a new No. 1.

Welcome to the top, Mississippi State. The Bulldogs -- a team that didn't even crack the Associated Press Top 25 until the fifth week of the season (at No. 14!) -- received all but three votes for the No. 1 spot from ESPN's selection committee. After three straight wins over teams ranked in the top 10 of the AP poll at the time, no team in the country has a more impressive playoff résumé.

Auburn tumbled out of the No. 1 spot -- and the top four -- after its loss to the Bulldogs, and is now playing from behind in the SEC West race. Baylor finally validated its résumé with a win over a top-10 opponent, but can the Bears stay there with a defense that allowed 58 points? The Noles aren't going anywhere -- unless Notre Dame has something to say about it this week.
