DU Fantasy 2018

So far, it's the year of the AZ Outlaws who finish the regular season at 13-0, running away with the Justice Division, having the highest season point total. Manager Jonathan had problems during the draft, fighting with the software and connection so that he couldn't connect until the fourth or fifth round and still walked away with the best draft and best team. Maybe I should try that strategy next year... They also represented a huge turn-around after going 2-11 last year. It's kinda awe-inspiring.

Callahan's Crew sneaked into second place with a last minute win over the Dark Corner Dirtbags for the Truth Division crown. Callahan's devilishly handsome manager the-other-Jon chased the Dirtbags all season and had a celebratory yogurt when Big Ben tossed his final touchdown. Offensively minded David, manager of the Dirtbags, scored the third highest total in the league, leveraging his 5-0 start to the season.

noob showed that it was a poorly named team by finishing brilliantly, winning its last 5 games to cruise into the playoffs at position four. Manager Robert said "I was sweating like a (war) pig winning the final game by only three points." noob also smashed the record book by having an astonishing 207 points in a single game, 30+ points more that the next single point total.

Long-time league pillar, The Turtles, who were edged out of the playoffs last year on points, only 16 points across an entire season, took care of business this year. "Unh, uh. Noway, nohow," David was heard to mutter as he beat away the competition, winning his last three games to clinch.

The final playoff team, though, gets chosen (by league rules, not Yahoo standard) by the highest scoring offense remaining once the top five are determined. Last year, this didn't matter, since positions 5-8 all had identical records and all scored more than the remaining teams.

This year, though, while last year's champion, The Greenmans, finished with an 8-5 record, Turfburns, at 7-6, scored the second highest point total in the league and snatched away the final spot. Turfburns' manager Bud was snake-bit all year, for example getting the fourth highest single game score all season and losing. Warmaster, the Greenmans manager, knows that they've crushed us in the past and can in the future.

As a side note, and because I'm a geek, I calculated our average scores. Like the NFL, scores are up this year over 12% per game compared to last year.

Next July/August to see if spots open up. It's a 14 team 0.5 PPR (with a few tweaks) redraft league.

My hat is off to all of you! It was another fun year and I look forward to doing it again next year.

Turfburns, you earned that spot - now go do that thing you been doing all season and score a ton of points and show these folks what the basement is capable of! (IIRC I came up from at or near the bottom of the playoff seeds to take it by the skin of my teeth)
