Unsigned Colin Kaepernick chose not to attend an NFL-arranged private workout, instead holding his own session at a high school to allow media to attend. He said he wanted "transparency", claiming the NFL denied media access to its own planned workout in Atlanta.
All 32 clubs were invited by the NFL to assess Kaepernick, who last played in 2016, when he began kneeling at the US national anthem in protest at racism. Representatives from 25 clubs had turned up at the Atlanta Falcons' training facility expecting to see the 32-year-old.
"Kaepernick was a no-show for 25 NFL teams at Falcons facility waiting at 3pm," the league tweeted. The NFL said it was "disappointed" Kaepernick the venue changed with only a 30 minutes' notice.
Kaepernick's choice of venue on Saturday was an hour from the scheduled location and the NFL said on Twitter: "No-one got a heads up until NFL saw the [Kaepernick] Twitter statement." In a long statement, the league said it had made considerable effort to work with Kaepernick's representatives, adding: "We are disappointed that Colin did not appear for his workout.
"Colin's decision has no effect on his status in the league. He remains an unrestricted free agent eligible to sign with any club."

(16,251 posts)have shielded the NFL from any future collusion claim -- something his prior settlement did not do. Without signing that waiver, the NFL would not let him do the workout at the Falcons' facility.
This whole thing was arranged by the NFL at the instigation of one of their lawyers (PFT even names him) for the purposes of getting him to sign away his labor rights going forward, and put him in a bind: sign his rights away or look flakey. He chose option 2 and did the workout at a place of his own arrangement. It is not a good look, but the NFL's actions here are dishonorable.

(34,195 posts)By his picking his location and his receivers,
he wasn't proving anything to the NFL.
He waited minutes before time to show up,
then pulled the rug out from under the NFL scouts.
Then he blamed the NFL.
Guessing he knew he wasn't up to the task, and this was his way out.
