(16,520 posts)My main concern with all Subys is the road noise. Seems like they could do a better job mitigating the road noise, especially over 70 mph.

(13,688 posts)their dependable as in never had let me sitting. The one got two daughters thru college on daily commute. and I would still have had the 01 if I was not in accident with it. I say go for it I replaced the 01 with a vw diesel, wife has the new cars as she commutes and travels for work. But I do find myself searching Craigslist at times for another Outback. the Subaru I was in accident with had 276.000 miles. And in my hatred of car payments I bought a motor that had 12.000 miles on it replaced motor. And at 51 my wife jokingly said well now you have reliable car for next 15 years until you retire. I said absolutely dear piss on the banks and car payments.
Their a bit underpowered so you will not need G suit. my wife used to joke ok kids hold on your father is merging into traffic. We will be in warp speed ,But on serious note just keep it maintained as in timing belt water pump preventive maintenance. I'd call mechanic hey can you get me in to do preventive if I was on vacation. New axles maybe shocks and Subaru Outback are awesome.

(1,547 posts)I test drive the VW alltrack..it was a blast to drive. The space and the reliability gave me pause.
Subaru seems to have fixed the road noise.. Loved the space and its swing out roof rack. All set for me to load up my ski gear.
But there is so much space behind the seats ..that I neednt even bother mounting my ski rack.
Hopefully I will have the car on my driveway in time for the winter.

(22,915 posts)worked all across the U.S. for 12 years (all over-city streets, country roads, farm lanes, mountaintops, etc...) and the company bought me a Subaru when I asked for one... NEVER gave me a problem... just get good tires!
A couple years before I retired, I bought my own Subaru and have had it for 4 years... still no problems

(10,749 posts)Very reliable. AWD great in the snow. Maintenance has been pretty routine. We live in a rural area and are tough on vehicles, so we've had to replace stuff that others might not have to.

(1,547 posts)I test drove a bunch of vehicles .. Subaru had the best all around visibility .. None of the pillars got in the way .. This was the 2017/2018 model

(83 posts)If you need AWD system then Subaru Outback is a good choice. Its 4cycle motor is powerful and dependable.

(60 posts)The first two were used. The second I bought at 93k and drove to 230k before selling it for another 50k. Yes, I kept up on regular oil changes and other recommended maintenance. I finally bought a new (2013) Crosstrek and am still very satisfied with reliability and performance.
Subaru Outback/Legacy is one of the top ten to get to 300k: https://www.cheatsheet.com/money-career/cars-can-take-300000-miles.html/?a=viewall
