Related: About this forumTook my Wife to a handgun safety class yesterday. It was her first time shooting a pistol.
At the end of the class, she shot a Glock 19 and a Springfield XD. I was VERY afraid that after the first time it went off she'd turn and say she didn't like the way it kicked. Boy, was I wrong...
3 targets at 25 feet, 10 rounds each. Every round inside the 7 ring. I'd say that's not bad for a woman in her early 60s who's never fired a pistol before. The smile on her face was worth a million bucks.
She prefers the Springfield. The search begins...

Women tend to be better shots than men. Glad she had fun! I remember the first time I shot a pistol, and the feeling was great.

(18,585 posts)I know it's almost reached holy war status, but my springfield fits my hand better than any glock I've ever tried. Natural point of aim, for me, unlike a glock.

(10,136 posts)Due to the shape of the Glock grips, folks either love them or hate them without much middle ground.

I ditched my M&P 9c a month ago, my search is for another 9, with only the XD's, G19, or another fullsized M&P in the running (In my price range)
I think the XD's are a great looking pistol, I'm still up in the air about the grip safety.

(493 posts)It took awhile, but after 1500 rounds or so and various hand guns she finally found her baby in a "less expensive" Bersa Thunder 380 ACP. For $350 bucks and an extended mag (pinky grip) she is in heaven.... can pretty much make a coke bottle dance at 10 yards...I might hit it twice in 8 shots....she's 2-3 times better than I am!

(1,018 posts)I take people to the range with me that hate guns quite oftern. I've noticed that the ladies, once over the fear, are much better shooters. Plus they always want ot know when we are going out again.

(222 posts)I'm not what I consider a "gun" person but itvwas tons of fun. I shot a 9mm, a 380, a 100 yr old Colt revolver, a 22 rifle, and a 8mm rifle. Oh and a 45 pistol. I loved the 45 and the 8mm rifle. The 22 was easy and kinda fun, but nothing spectacular. The 9mm and 380 were fine. The Colt was cool but kinda big and harder to aim. I probably will go again soon.
PS: Off topic, but there was a group pf guys there in camo and right-wing bumper stickers. Why they needed camo is beyond me. The targets don't move, they're not hiding from anyone. Maybe its just me, but I find camo as a fashion statement funny..
