My Sounders got their asses stomped last night in Mexico

With hopes of being the first MLS team in 10 years to beat a Mexican opponent in a CONCACAF knockout round, Sounders FC took a 2-1 series lead to Santos Laguna on Wednesday for the road leg of a Champions League quarterfinal.

The lead didn't last 10 minutes.

And in the end, Seattle didn't even come close.

Santos, the top-scoring team in Mexico, showcased its offensive prowess with an authoritative 6-1 win at Estadio Corona to easily take the series, 7-3 on aggregate, and clinch a CCL semifinal berth.

We got played right off the pitch. Our midfield and central defenders didn't even show up. Humiliating.

They're my Sounders too. Sad -- they were thoroughly dominated. At 2-1 in the half, being level in the tie, it seemed there was hope but they were never in it in the second half. Congratulations, Santos, you deserved to go through, and all the best of luck to you in the next round.

which included this game, asking.."What do you think is the worst loss in Sounders FC history?"

I voted for last year's playoff 1st leg loss to RSL..

They were part of the old A-League and the NASL before that.

Speaking of the NASL, I always have to think of this quoted gem which somehow defines that league for me:

"Tell the Kraut to get his ass up front. We don't pay a million for a guy to hang around in defence."
- NY Cosmos owner on Franz Beckenbauer

The local sports writers didn't pay attention to the team until MLS (with the exception of the long-retired guys from the NASL days), and no non MLS games were on the list.

Yeah, that's right. I pull for MLS.

Still, it could have been worse. The Sounders could have lost to Toronto.
