I'm an atheist, but I also feel disappointed about

how the ideals of progressive Christianity of the Seventies were not maintained by the majority of my generation.

I'm talking about the messages of Godspell, the Friday night coffee houses, even Jesus Freaks to some extent.

The wave of Peace & Love, charity, stuff that would be called "Woke" in today's terms.

I understand it was a counter-culture Christianity with Hippies-Meet-Jesus, but it was real.

While I can't blame everything on Reagan, it seems to me that the pursuit of affluence and status replaced the ideals of the Seventies.

1. I am an atheist too but I was brought up in the Methodist Church in the 60s

In the 50s. At the time they were all about fairness and equality. “Jesus loves the little children, red and yellow black and white they are precious in his sight”. It’s like our president said, we never quite lived up to it, but we never walked away from it

2. I am more an atheistic leaning agnostic (best way I can describe myself)...

I grew up going to a Baptist Church but not terribly serious, just because my parents took us there. I went to a small liberal Methodist college for a couple of years but other than being in the music dept choral groups who sang mostly classical and secular fare did not attend church or religious classes. I do remember the Jesus Freaks, I went to an area youth group gathering and one speaker got so wound up about Jesus with crying and such that they more or less carried him off the stage. Since I have always been musically oriented I did and still do like the musical Godspell and even Jesus Christ Superstar. I like classical religious choral music but to me it is just music I like and has nothing to do with my beliefs....
