The full moon — nicknamed the buck moon — will peak at 6:17 a.m. ET Sunday, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac. It’s called the buck moon because male deer, or bucks, fully grow their antlers at this time of year, the almanac says.

We had a doe and baby show up last year in our backyard. We live in the suburbs, and our backyard backs up to the common ground, a small wooded area. The deer became quite bold over time and ate right from our bird feeders! The feeders are on poles and the feeders are tube feeders with an attached tray. The doe would stroll up to the bird feeders and eat the seeds right from the trays. She would also hit the feeders to send seeds to the ground for her fawn. The weirdest visitors were wild turkeys last year. They would fly onto the roof and walk around! The first time it happened we had to go out and look at what was making that all noise on the roof! This year they have not returned. Miss them.
