Finally, the high temperature stranglehold on SW Idaho has broken. I think. I hope.

What a blazing summer this year. We saw 27 days above 100 degrees where normally we would expect somewhere in the mid-teens. Those 27 days broke the previous record of 21, an almost 30 percent increase to the record alone.

Not only that, the number of days which have exceeded the daily average high temperature in July, August and September are 61 out of 71 days where one might expect 30-40 out of those 71.

I don't know if our hot summer is an outlier or a sign of things to come. I suspect the latter. Like many places in the West, it's been damn hot. The last two days of mid 80's are a welcome relief except for the wildfire smoke that just started pouring in.

Earlier this week we had the hottest day ever recorded for Sacamento. 116 with some valley locations getting to 119

4. On Monday I talked to my brother who lives in in Livermore.

He said it was 113. I stopped whining about our temps.

It's in front of us to be dealt with yet....crickets.

5. We've had almost 2 weeks of extreme heat in Southern California

A broken up hurricane moved in, it's as humid as hell, but it's 69 and raining right now—last night, it didn't drop below 79.

Hopefully that rain is just enough to really help with the fires without too much a risk of flash flooding. In any case a cooling respite, despite the humidity.
