I must go 가야지
[세계에서 가장 슬픈 노래] 보현스님 - 가야지 (Bohyun - My way)
박범훈 곡/김영임 노래
I must go, I must go, as the flowers bloom and birds cry
Crossing over the mountains, and crossing the waters, alone I must go
If flowers bloom, I sleep among them, when the wind blows I sleep in the wind,
The distant path cries and calls, I must go
Our season in Buddha's spirit is good
Come, come and go well, Buddha bring peace to my soul
I must go, I must go, as the flowers bloom and birds cry
Crossing over the mountains, and crossing the waters, alone I must go
Inevitably, life of this world, without sound, sets and finishes
Like the leaves of a flower, go! go! I must go
Our season in Buddha's spirit is good
Come, Come and go well, Buddha bring peace to my soul
Heard a moving performance by Bohyun Seunim today of I Must Go on a S.Korean interview program and tried to find another like it on youtube. The preface to the title here says "The world's saddest song." Gayaji ( 가야지 ) could be translated one must go, or I must go. She translates it "my way," embracing destiny. Hoped to capture the essence of the song in the translation. There is always room for improvement there. How does a song about the impermanence of life provide comfort? This is something Bohyun Seunim tried to explain in her interview. It is not dwelling on fate as sadness, but to provide comfort.
