Wonder Why
(5,923 posts)I don't remember this episode but that's nothing new as my memory slowly fades.
I think my favorites were about space. One had astronauts land on a barren planet and as they killed each other off, it is only at the end that the viewer finds out they landed near Las Vegas. The other was the poor rural woman attacked by miniature people from an alien planet - who turn out to be earth astronauts who landed on a planet of giants.
I think the one about the climate with a woman and her small daughter who are slowly dying because the planet has become too warm to survive. Only it is their imagination because the planet is really getting too cold and they are freezing. I'm not even sure any more if I remember it right. It might have been that they think they are freezing but in fact, they are dying from the heat.
What a brilliant person was Rod Serling. I wonder what he would be writing about with today's political climate.
Excellent video.

(4,241 posts)Martin Goldberg was the writer. He contributed a few more scripts to the final season of the series.
This episode was not put into the syndication rotation until the year 2016. It was the only episode which had been withheld from syndication.

...was an actual WW2 hero and was seriously wounded by German machine gun fire and almost bled to death. He was awarded a Silver Star Medal as well as the Purple Heart. Although born in Iowa, he was raised in my hometown of Kewanee, a small nowhere prairie town in northwestern Illinois. He graduated from Kewanee high school there, as did I.
Although I think George doesn't post directly to DU, it would be interesting to hear him weigh in on this OP.

(22 posts)The acting is very good and Brand is magnificent with excellent dialogue, I don't think todays writers could have put it together like this was written, the old breed is gone.
Serling himself knew the Pacific war well as a decorated paratrooper.
"During fighting for Rizal Stadium, Serling shot and killed a Japanese soldier on third base in the baseball diamond. On another occasion, a Japanese soldier had his rifle pointed directly at Serling from close range. Stunned and unable to react, the American prepared to die. In a split second, though, another paratrooper stepped behind Serling and shot down the enemy soldier. By the time the war had ended, only one out of every three men in Serlings regiment had survivedfulfilling the prediction made during parachute training."

(19,805 posts)I remember watching it on channel 44 in the SF Bay Area in the 70s and 80s, and I have it on a DVD set that came out about 20-25 years ago.
This video appears to be AI clickbait.
