I’m a native SF and I remember as a kid the Chinese were distinguished as FOB ( fresh off the boart] or ABc ( American born Chinese) My Asian friends who went to Washington HS were proud tof saying they were ABC and the FOB’s saying they were proud of their heritage. To me I didn’t care either way only that they were nice people. My Dad who grew up in the city also said the same thing as he had Chinese and Japanese friends in the 30’s when he was growing up.
