DU Community Help
Related: About this forumis there a way to tell if another DU user has trashed/hidden a thread or blocked you?
say you post an OP, starts a thread.
someone drops in on the thread, disagrees vehemently with you. you reply in good faith, and the conversation just dies there. one possibility might be that they simply can't see your reply due to hiding a thread or blocking your posts. it would be nice to know about that to establish context and answer questions like "should i bother trying to discuss something with this person?"
not sure how others are handling this. is there a way to know?

(24,657 posts)people can have disagreements, so they discuss and sometimes find common ground
i just think it would be nice to know which situation i'm stepping into if i reply to a post. should be pretty easy for the admins to add a little icon next to the username showing the user trashed the current thread, or a warning page saying "the user you're replying to won't be able to see your response" when you hit reply.

There are other things that interrupt a good fight here, and this place moves too fast to keep it up. Make the point and go away...
And that's before trolls get started.

(24,657 posts)some of the most enjoyable discussions begin as bitter disagreements and end otherwise. for the sake of discourse, i'd like to think that it's still possible to communicate beyond dropping an OP or a single-level response, but maybe i'm wrong. it's also possible we've devolved and been alienated into becoming poop-flinging primates incapable of connecting with one-another outside of financial transactions, which i sincerely hope is not the case.
maybe i'm getting too old for this, but i remember a time when you didn't "make the point and go away", you made the point and stuck around to discuss it.
