You shouldn't leave unused accounts active. It is a security risk. I don't know how many times I've had my email and account info seized by some hack of a website or another. If you aren't using a service any more, delete the account.

https://haveibeenpwned.com/

You can enter your email address here to see if your information has been stolen. If you are telling people to "just stop showing up" I suggest you check your email address IMMEDIATELY. That is dangerous.

Orphaned accounts leave behind personal and identifying information that can be aggregated into larger repositories after they are hacked. Ever use the same security question on two sites? The same password? How about a credit card, etc.? Best to check, change your passwords, and have random / fake security questions.

Spin it out as long as you can, but remember object permanence --- you will continue to exist even when no one is paying the least attention to you.

I had to go to Bing and craft a search to find it. When I came here and asked a SIMPLE question, I just got mocked.

Anyone of the could simply have said what you said.

Instead it was just snark. Nobody has been like that in the other forums on here. What am I missing?

Said, go to ask the admins.

You can also go to ‘my posts’ and delete your individual posts, tedious but doable.

Then change your password to wheklrhjaiwpuq[goivwj[03qop inrp39rob i 2ugjrnvior2g3jrkwm Or other random keystrokes you will never remember and hit enter.

Or you could just forget about DU.

Best luck, cheers

One does wonder at your written feeling of desperation. You have been here a month, mostly in one of the most fun groups, and, instead of just not coming back in, you want to make it official. Sounds a bit extreme, but, your choice.

The one I can think of is employment. A job application for a conservative employer - like the FBI - in this era could lose you the job if discovered. Not sure if deleting account would delete all reference though
