DU Community Help
Related: About this forumHow can I get more recs so my post gets more views?
I wrote a post about the draconian bills that would harm voters in Texas. I had one person do many KRs and another react strongly saying it made them very angry.
It's an all hands on deck situation for Texas voters. Can I recommend it? Or only others? What else can I do to get attention for it?

(29,783 posts)If its a busy day posts are out of site in an hour.
Tuesday tend to be slower and a thread can get on the front page with 20 recs other days a thread needs 60. 🤷🏼♀️
Of course a catchy title helps.
But realize not everyone is into the minutia of lives not their own.
I for one pass up threads about Texas all the time. My state has its own draconian crap.
So just keep putting out whats important to you. If others dont jump to support a thread dont let it get to you. You put out your truth. At least you voiced your opinions.
PS. Note that those that comment dont necessarily rec.

(3,205 posts)I'm trying to keep the Rs from making it nearly impossible to vote, or help others register.
Maybe I'm tilting at windmills
but I must try.

(3,205 posts)I emailed my Senators today. But I have no hope of Cornyn or Cruz supporting it. I hope those in states with more reasonable senators will help convince them to support it.

Some very important ones will sink because people are just feeling overwhelmed and in need of a "breather" on any given day. That doesn't mean that DUers don't appreciate the importance of the issue and thus posting something similar on the issue a few days later may get a very different reception.

(29,783 posts)You want to ask them something privately, dont hesitate to pm them. I have made good friends that have reached out to me privately. Which has made me reach out to a few I admire. Then you build a network within the network.
I have been pmd many time about living in Costa Rica. Its fun.
My kindred spirits during the primary and election are good DU friends now.

(3,205 posts)My normal DU habits are to work on my many other projects until I'm too tired to do so anymore. Then I treat myself to DU. Often I don't bring my best self then and am reading relatively quickly so I don't miss anything good, hoping I finish before midnight.
I'm volunteering a lot in retirement (communications and website for my local LWV, communications and board secretary for our local community radio station, on a media action team for Braver Angels.)
It's not that I don't want to build community, it's often that I have little energy left by the time I get here.

(53,645 posts)An OP gets a kick (moved up on the list of posts in a particular forum, thus more visible, and may eventually appear in the "Trending Now" box) by how many, and how recent, its kicks are. Every time some (including you!) replies to your OP, that gives it a kick. That includes replies to replies. I recommend you thank or reply to folks who reply to your OP. Not only is it nice and creates relationships, but you'd be kicking your own OP too. Win win.
summer_in_TX
(3,205 posts)I notice there's a DU Kick button. Does clicking that work too?

(7,334 posts)But reply to as many of the comments as possible - and spread it out over time - i.e. do one , wait a bit, and reply to the next.
Every reply puts the OP back on the top of the discussion list. If you spread your replies out - then every reply puts it back on top where those who are grazers (like me) may eventually open it up.
Then maybe reply the next day too so the next 'shift of DU'ers gets to see it at the top.
Rec's are important too as those are what puts in on The Front Page in the Trending threads and The Greatest threads. (Note that there is a time limit where it will disappear from the Trending list and not go back..it can only make the Top Greatest List there.
And of coarse the more recs the higher it will be on The Greatest Page.
Time of day makes a difference too - there are more posts during the EDT Prime Time - and less during the PDT prime time. And of coarse the Graveyard - between midnight and 4AM PDT it takes less recs to get it on The Front Page.
Good luck - I'll K & R it shortly.
(Oh yeah - some here may perceive it a bit of bad manners to rec your own OP - but if it is super important to you go for it. I don't know of any site rules that prevent that.)

(3,205 posts)I appreciate all the good tips. A bunch!
Distributing replies over time makes sense. I hadn't figured out the various pages sections, and also hadn't realized the time zone would make a difference,

(142,121 posts)Roblox has received widespread criticism for its chat filtration system. Although Roblox's filtration system, Community Sift, censors and removes most inappropriate messages and content, some can still avoid the system. To combat these issues, Roblox has 1,600 people working to remove such content from the platform. Roblox offers privacy settings; parents can limit what people a user can contact, restricting access to private servers, and turning on parental control.
Though sexual content is prohibited on Roblox, the platform has received substantial criticism for the presence of sexually explicit games and imagery within it. This content includes items like virtual sex clubs and nightclubs, with creators of said content largely communicating through third-party platforms which cannot be regulated by Roblox moderators. A 2020 investigation by Fast Company found that sexual content was still prevalent within Roblox, with attempts by moderators to remove it being likened to "whack-a-mole", though it was also found that the situation had generally improved in the recent years prior to the report.
Some extremist role-playing communities and scenarios present in Roblox have caused controversy.
Roblox has also been criticised for making it easy for children to spend large sums of money through microtransactions, leading to numerous instances where children have spent large sums of money on the platform without parents' knowledge, and deleting the accounts of players who file chargebacks or request refunds for Robux payments through their banks, card issuers or other third-party companies.
