(92,636 posts)There was a bobcat who liked to crap in an anthill behind my car and a fox who peed on my porch almost every night. Never saw either of them in the act but it was interesting to know they passed only a couple feet from me while I slept. It was quite a different feeling when I got up to find bears had opened someone else's trash outside my door. I had grizzly bear nose prints on the outside of my front door.
Grizzlies yes Id be on alert glad we dont have grizzly bears here in Pennsylvania

(92,636 posts)I've seen 'em.
Yeah, bear spray is a regular thing by my door, even now.
What I really miss are the wolves singing at night. Wasn't every night but often.

(22,869 posts)Our house is in the forest in the Catskills. Ive seen the bobcat only once and guess its about 30-40 lbs. Ive seen its paw prints many times and plan to keep those razor-sharp claws a good distance away from me.
Theyre quite beautiful in a ferocious way. Dont mess with them!

(8,444 posts)A gray fox. We locked eyes for a moment through the window before he or she darted off.
It is awesome indeed. We're lucky.

(14,815 posts)We have a little fox that comes to our yard. I got a picture of it curled up taking a nap in front of the woods a week or so ago. Then one night it walked up the driveway and got caught by the security camera. I once saw a mocking bird chase a fox all the way across out yard, through the horse pasture, and into the woods.
We can hear the coyotes at night if the windows are open, although we rarely see them.
When the pears and apples are ripe, the deer come into the yard and take them right off the trees.
Animals in the wild really are awesome.

(721 posts)We were staying at a family cottage on Cedar Lake in Manitowoc county. I got up early to walk and it came out of the woods to the road. Made a sound like a cough or throat-clearing. My biologist husband didnt believe me at first, but when I imitated the sound it made, he recognized it as a bobcat. Probably the early 1990s.

(2 posts)I envy you very strongly. I would love to perceive more signs of medium-large wild animals where I live. A bobcat is one such animal.
Granted the prospect of something like a bear or a cougar would be intimidating.
You have my thanks for sharing this. A little insight into life that could be.
