someone who is constantly making abusive personal attacks and
then deleting his message ?
Tetrachloride
(8,445 posts)Is this a DU situation?
or in another message service?

Given your screen name, I just would hope this is NOT a directed antisemitic attack--but all the more reason to submit those photos of the offending messages prior to deletion.
" a directed antisemitic attack "
I have been here for years and never once had an antisemitic attack
directed at me .
Its coming from a fellow Jew who does not agree with my politics .

(8,387 posts)sorry its taken me so long to respond ive had a death in the family .
Effete Snob
(8,387 posts)Is it about posts, or PM's?
If a post is deleted, it leaves a "message deleted" placeholder behind.
But, on PM's, if you send one, then can you subsequently delete it? And, if so, how can you tell if someone has read it?
Israeli
(4,293 posts)I have no PM contact with this person .
" If a post is deleted, it leaves a "message deleted" placeholder behind."
I know I see it but there is no report abuse button under the deleted post .
By the time it takes me to log in the post has gone .
Response to Israeli (Reply #13)
Effete Snob This message was self-deleted by its author.
Effete Snob
(8,387 posts)Is that what you are talking about?
I posted and then self-deleted.
You'll notice my username remains.
If you are seeing something else, then a jury, the mods, or MIRT, already removed the post and possibly the poster.
It will be more like "Post Removed" with no name on it at all.
In other words, if the post was removed by action of a jury, the mods, or MIRT, then you don't have to notify anyone of anything, because the appropriate people already did the appropriate thing.
I know who is abusing me , he belongs to the same group that
I do .
" In other words, if the post was removed by action of a jury, the mods, or MIRT, then you don't have to notify anyone of anything, because the appropriate people already did the appropriate thing. "
He deletes his own posts .
Its probably an attempt to make me react badly which to be honest
I want to and have done in the past .
I dont want him banned or ignore him , I just want a civilised discussion .
Israeli
(4,293 posts)havent a clue how to do that but thanks anyway and yes its a
DU situation.

(25,456 posts)Look for the Alert button on the Left side below the post if you get there before it's deleted. The Alert button is below the Rec button and below the Thread Info button. There you can report the alert.
If that doesn't work you can send DU mail to the host of the forum or group you're in. Click the Name of the group. I used Community Help as an example here.
https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1256
Click the "About This" button which you will see has a lower case "i" surrounded by a blue circle to find out who the Host or Hosts might be. But not every place has a host. So...
If that's not an option you can DU mail EarlG directly by searching for him,
https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=search&terms=&author=EarlG&forum=1256&type=title&startmonth=2&startday=8&startyear=2023&endmonth=3&endday=8&endyear=2023&sortby=date
Then click on one of his posts to find his moniker
https://www.democraticunderground.com/
In this case I used the first thing that came up in the search.
I clicked through to the post he made.
https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1256&pid=21408
Then I clicked on his moniker which took me to his journal
https://www.democraticunderground.com/~EarlG
Then I selected the option to send him a direct message which is represented by a picture of a pencil with an eraser and a yellow envelope and says Send DU mail.
Click that and you get
Send DU Mail to EarlG
Here's a link for you to the send mail option for him...so you don't have to follow all the steps this time, I did it for you.

Good luck! I hope this helps.

(3,457 posts)..there's a place where it asks for user name you wish to ignore.
I actually thought it was within alert function. Alert is at the bottom left of any given post and is used to submit complaint ( an action you may still want to consider.) The Ignore function is found at top of this page..scroll up to your user name right under DU.com heading: your user name is shown: my profile: my account..etc. select my account, then select ignore. Hope this helps!
Now if I can find out how to change my user name that I named in haste right before 2020 election-- maybe change to something like..WeDidIT! or DEMSrule. Anyway, awhile back there was a window of time to change--missed it! Oh well, guess I'm stuck with my username
Have a great day!
Paz.

(106,318 posts)is too complicated, you can copy and paste the TEXT of the offending post (before it is deleted) into an email to the address I provided you earlier to the admins.
I'm sorry if my asking if the posts were antisemitic upset you. I think it is a concern most here would have and be eager to rid the board of it, had it been the case. But apparently, my asking was not welcome, even as I sought to help you. I find that regretful.
I hope you get the help you seek.

(3,457 posts)..poster, then any and all items are blocked from your viewing on your end. Allow me to fidget around for a bit see if I can locate it--be back in a few minutes. ( Need to make a cup of coffee...so make that 5 min. )

(221,938 posts)If alerting on the offensive posts doesn't work. You can do that by sending a PM or in Ask the Administrators. I'd suggest including the links to the offensive messages. Good luck with this, it's not acceptable to harass fellow DUers.
