Wonder Why

Can admins automatically provide a notice to everyone posting a twitter "link"

that they should post the URL of the tweet, NOT the share?

For those of us who don't subscribe to Twitter, we can't see shares unless we login which means we would need to have an account.

And thanks to those who are smart enough to actually use the real links instead of the shares.

2. The way our software works is that if you paste the URL of the tweet into a post

it will embed the tweet for you. So you can't just post the URL (unless you break the URL in some way) because posting the URL causes the tweet to automatically embed.

You do not need to have a Twitter account or be logged into Twitter to see an embedded tweet on DU.

There are a number of reasons why a tweet might not embed directly into a post -- for example, if you are using a VPN, an ad blocker or some other kind of content blocker, have higher than normal security settings in your browser, or have Javascript turned off -- or if Twitter is just having an issue of some kind -- then you may not see tweets automatically embedding.

Instead, a line of text will appear which says "Link to tweet" -- that line of text will be a hyperlink to the tweet, so if you right-click it you can copy the URL, or just click on it to go directly to the tweet on Twitter.

5. I may be confusing the link to the tweet with the "tweet" link at the bottom

of the post which just takes one to a main page where I now realize is allowing the reader to share the post on twitter and that requires a login. (goes to twitter.com/share)

I'll have to look at the next time I see that issue.

The "Tweet" button is automatically inserted into every OP -- it's not put there by the member who started the thread. The "Tweet" button doesn't indicate that the post contains a tweet, it's so that people can easily share the DU post on Twitter if they choose.

On Edit: I see EarlG explained it all!
