4. Yep, that's what I did.

Keeps asking for an email to "check out as a guest" with PayPal. I don't want anything to do with PayPal.

I've clicked again and again to pay with a credit card, but it just circles me back.

I had a PayPal account once and it was hacked. I had a hell of a time and an awful experience. DU needs to make it easier for people without a PayPal account.

6. You have to put in an email address if you want to check out as a guest

Presumably you can use any email address you want (like a throwaway Yahoo address for example) since email addresses aren't used to confirm your identity for the purpose of making an online purchase with a credit card. But there's no other way to make a credit card payment without going through that process.

The only way to avoid PayPal completely is to pay by mail.

7. OK, so if I put the email in, then it will then take me to entering the CC number?

I don't necessarily want to check out as a guest, but I want nothing to do with PayPal.

12. If you want to pay electronically, you'll have to at least partially go through PayPal

You don't have a PayPal account and you don't want one, so you can check out as a guest by clicking the "Pay with Debit or Credit Card" button.

You'll be asked for an email address. If you want a receipt, you should put in a working address. If you don't care about a receipt, you can presumably enter any old thing and it doesn't matter. After you've entered the address you'll be taken to a payment page.

When you're on the payment page you'll be asked to provide other information which PayPal will use to confirm your ownership of the credit card. This is normal. Entering this information will NOT create a PayPal account for you. It's just used to verify the credit card. PayPal then processes the payment and sends the funds to us, minus their processing fee, and within a few minutes your DU account should be updated to show your Star Membership.

If you do not want to go through PayPal *at all* the only way to do it is to pay by mail.

5. I just donated with credit card.

Just to try it, I removed my paypal login and passwd on the first screen and then filled in the cc info on next screen - it did make me fill in the billing address (my address) and it took the payment.

IT appears it must be some agreement they have with Paypal?? who knows?

my donation (I assume this must be from my du login info).

So yea, it appear they must use paypal as a means to accept and probably collect donations.
