Settings? I can't find any way to get rid of these annoying pimples.

(4,873 posts)Just to the left of the address bar in Firefox you should see a little button that looks like two sliders. Click that and you should see a popup that says "Permissions for www.democraticunderground.com"
Below that, you should see a line that says "Send notifications" and a button that says "Allowed." Click the "Allowed" button and reload the page.
You'll then get another request to receive notifications -- just click "Dismiss" and that should be that.

(4,873 posts)There was a little banner starting weeks ago requesting permission to send these popup notices from DU. The messages tout some topic being discussed. I got tired of the requests and acceded--the promise was I could cancel at any time in "settings."
OTOH you may well be right.
Whatever is going on, I don't like it and I want it to stop.

(33,643 posts)In W11 you can right-click on the clock area in the taskbar (lowest right-hand corner) and choose notification settings. From there there's a list of what you allow and what you don't. Switch the DU entry to 'no'.
Not sure about other platforms.

(4,873 posts)They're little updates to DU postings. And I already am a star member.

(28,833 posts)If they're turned on in settings, they're sent regardless of membership status.
As noted, the OP is already a member.

Whether you choose to allow or block notifications, you can easily change your mind later. On a desktop browser, visit any DU page and click the little padlock to the left of the address bar:

(4,873 posts)I wasn't hallucinating! Everybody else (except EarlG) thought I needed to donate, nobody seemed to know what I was talking about, and I sure as hell am *not* going to unsubscribe from PornHub.
