Related: About this forumIs there a limit to allowed length of excerpts?
Hi, I just posted a thread in which I copy/pasted an entire (short) article from a free newsletter I subscribe to into an 'excerptc box. It crossed my mind that re-posting an entire article might be wrong for copyright reasons, and I have noticed that a lot of posts have -snip- 's when re-posting articles, but I can't find any rules anywhere on stuff like that.
I appreciate any help with finding important rules like that on this website, I checked my account page but no luck so far. Thanks.

(9,610 posts)They don't have to be consecutive paragraphs; you can use the snip phrasing to denote excerpts.
I have seen other people in a threat post additional excerpts sometimes.
Think. Again.

I appreciate the quick response!

(123,088 posts)sure to put a link to the website where you can subscribe to the email if there is one. Otherwise I put up 4 paragraphs and that is it. I guess that is wrong. Okay ignore me.

The original article was written with a lot of one-sentence paragraphs but I think I was able to choose 4 that made sense as a complete post.

Excerpts from copyrighted sources must be no more than four paragraphs and include a link to the source. See our DMCA Copyright Policy for more information.
Do not copy-and-paste entire articles onto this discussion forum. When referencing copyrighted work, post a short excerpt with a link back to the original.
To simplify compliance and enforcement of copyrights here on Democratic Underground, we ask that excerpts from other sources posted on Democratic Underground be limited to a maximum of four paragraphs, and we ask that the source of the content be clearly identified. Those who make a good-faith effort to respect the rights of copyright holders are unlikely to have any problems.
