Consider using a color swatch instead of primary colors

Consider using a color swatch instead of primary colors

First, reds and greens are not great for color blind folks.

There are lots of free sites out there that can help you define cohesive color swatch schemes for buttons, headers, outlines, etc.

The random colors are jarring and makes the site look less organized.

I know you likely have functionality issues to contend with right now as well but this would help the user experience.

On the one hand I'm hearing that the old version of the site was better and we should hew closer to that, but then on the other hand I'm hearing that we should make the new site even less like the old one.

The colors were not selected randomly. With the exception of the lighter blues in the top menu and the darker blues in the footer, every color on DU4's Default Mode -- including the greys -- are identical to the colors used on the previous version of the site, and in roughly the same proportions and locations. That was a deliberate choice, to provide a smooth visual transition between the two versions. I don't imagine it would have gone down too well if I'd changed the color palette along with everything else.
